Doors.
I love the allegory of doors because something always happens at them. Either you pass through them, or you remain standing in front of them. It depends on the day, on whether you have the keys, and on whether you are on someone’s guest list.
It was around 3AM. The entrance to Silencio Club, at Maurizio Cattelan’s after-party.
Since it was very stuffy inside, I went out to get some air. In front of the entrance, I saw a familiar, beautiful face, like Botticelli’s Venus.
It was Tessa, whom I would later call Tessoro.
We looked at each other and somehow felt that we knew one another, as if we had already met at some other door. Soon I remembered that she was the girl whose number Jochen had given me when I was in Venice in May for the Biennale pre-opening. He told me to contact her if I wanted to get in without waiting in the long line, because there was such a huge crowd.
It was May 7. I wrote to her, and she replied: “Please wait in the queue”
That evening was September 10, and four months later, I finally replied to her message.
In person, I apologized for never having answered her. Then, while we were standing together, looking at my phone and at our WhatsApp chat from May 7, I replied to her September 10 message with: “I will.”

And so Tessa and I really did wait for the right moment to connect – this time, deeply.
Day after, we went to my fav Chinese restaurant Chowoo in Mitte, the one Sergio discovered and where we ate on my birthday, September 9. That was where I had the most delicious mapo tofu of my life, so I wanted to go back and eat that miracle again.
And while we were waiting, sunlight fell across her golden hair as she was talking on the phone. It really looked like the hair in Botticelli’s painting of Venus.

From that moment on, I understood that she was actually the reincarnation of Venus – because she has Venus in Libra and the Moon in Cancer.
And from that day on, we didn’t separate again until the very last day of our stay in Berlin. We ended up drinking a glass of water at an ex-random restaurant we found on the street, simply because we were so thirsty.
After that glass of water, we felt so good that we made a decision: every time we drink a glass of water, we will send each other a photo of the empty glass.
